The Notions Bag

The design is based on a "collar" bag in Dianne Ayres's collection of Arts and Crafts textiles, presumably meant to hold collars and cuffs in times when they were detachable. The embroidery is based on an original tea towel, perhaps symbolizing regeneration, according to Dianne. We chose the pattern because it was quintessentially Arts and Crafts, and at the same time it had a colonial feel. I also liked the use of primary colors. In order to find the little metal rings, I made a trip to the shop at Berkeley's Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles, where I was blown away by the amazing selection of textile-related materials and tools. You can find out more at www.lacis.com and lacismuseum.org.
